I posted in general health what can cause extreme hunger in the morning as soon as I wake up?
some answers were maybe pre diabetic or diabetes,could this be true? I did have high blood sugar 2 hours after dinner the other night on my fathers meter 194 ,not been to doc about it,just thought hey i had a normal reading after i fasted 83:) THought I’d post here to see if anyone might ave had this kind of hunger with diabetes? tyvm
Extreme hunger on waking would suggest it’s more likely your blood sugar has dropped too low in the night, rather than a problem indicating diabetes. You can’t really use a random blood sugar as a guide, because it really depends on what exactly it was you ate for dinner. The only way you could really eliminate glucose metabolism as a problem would be to see your doctor and have a glucose tolerance test done. That way, the amount of glucose is known, and they can follow the entire process of the body reacting and dealing with it. Consider when and what you ordinarily eat for dinner, and how long a period of time passes before you eat breakfast. If you are looking at more than 12 hours, it wouldn’t be a real surprise that you felt ravenous first thing in the morning. Hunger is usually a pretty good signal your body needs fuel. If you have been trying to do a low carb, high protein diet, that may also be part of the reason. Thirst is the big thing most diabetics notice before they are diagnosed, that and an increased amount of urine output. If your father has any of the urine test strips, you can use those to check to see if sugar is spilling in your urine. But your wisest course of action would be simply to visit your doctor and be tested.
